AK Checkweigher

Checkweigher Electrical Design, Automation & R&D Leadership
I designed and implemented the electrical and control system of this in-house checkweigher
While my primary role is industrial automation and panel design, I also led the R&D effort—coordinating mechanical design, software, and on-site validation to reach a reliable, production-ready machine
What I did
Electrical architecture & panel design (power distribution, protections, wiring, labeling)
PLC/HMI development for weighing logic, reject control, statistics and alarms
Load cell integration (signal conditioning, noise mitigation, calibration flow)
Motion & actuators (reject mechanism timing, encoder/photocell sync)
Field wiring & commissioning with FAT/SAT test plans and documentation
R&D leadership across mechanical (frame, belt, reject box, access doors) and software (data logging, reports), aligning the team toward a stable release
How the system works
In-motion weighing with high-resolution load cell and adaptive filtering
Product tracking via encoder + sensors to isolate each package window
Auto-zero & calibration routines accessible from HMI
Reject control (air-blast or pusher) with safety interlocks
Production reporting (OK/NG counts, weight histograms, batch stats)
Results
Stable measurement at line speed with reduced false rejects
Clean electrical build → easy maintenance and safe access
Practical HMI → faster changeovers and fewer operator errors
Tech stack (sample)
Fatek PLC / HMI, HBM load cell, industrial encoder & photo sensors, panel accessories to IEC 60204-1
My role in one line
Electrical & automation owner, and R&D lead guiding mechanical and software to a production target
